Autumn 2025 Strategic Membership Meeting

Nov 25-27, 2025
İzmir, Türkiye

Call for proposals is now closed

About the event

The Autumn 2025 Strategic Membership Meeting (SMM2025) is organised by euroCRIS in cooperation with the İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH).

Following successful euroCRIS meetings in Leuven earlier this year (MM2025) and in Paris in Autumn last year (SMM2024), the series of membership meetings is heading East and to a country – Türkiye – that has hosted no previous euroCRIS event.

The snapshot for the Turkish CRIS landscape provided by the euroCRIS Directory of Research Information Systems (DRIS) shows a widespread research information management infrastructure across the country. Furthermore, a recent update on the relevance of Open Science in the country was provided by Gültekin Gurdal, who will host this forthcoming euroCRIS meeting on behalf of the Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH).

Research information management and its application to the implementation of Open Science are areas that will be explored in more detail during this SMM2025 İzmir.

Getting to Izmir

Arriving via plane

Izmir is Türkiye’s 3rd metropolitan city and has an international airport, Izmir Adnan Menderes, 18 km (11 mi) south of the city center (Izmir). The distance between Izmir airport and Urla is around 45 km.

Check the Adnan Menderes airport passenger guide.

There are three other options to get from Izmir Airport to Urla:

1. Taxi: Passengers can take a taxi at the exit of the domestic/international terminals’ arrivals floor. Nearly 34 min from Izmir Airport (ADB) to Urla. (The easiest but most expensive option for transportation to Urla.)

2. Havaş Shuttles: Passengers can get on a shuttle at the exit of the domestic/international terminal arrivals floor. (It is the most convenient option for transportation to Urla, but it is not available every hour.)
Click here to access the search for the route of Havaş shuttles and the departure/arrival times of the shuttles from/to the airport.

3. Municipal Buses: Passengers can get on a municipal bus at the exit of the domestic/international terminal arrivals floor. Bus services from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport are provided by the General Directorate of ESHOT of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Public transport is available 24/7 in Izmir. Credit cards are accepted on municipal buses. (The cheapest but most complicated way for transportation to Urla.)
• Take bus number 202, Alsancak Cumhuriyet Avenue – Airport
• Get off at the Fahrettin Altay Square stop.
• Take bus number 684 or 984 from the Fahrettin Altay bus stop; Fahrettin Altay – Urla

Alternatively, take Urla minibuses from Fahrettin Altay Square.
Click here to access the route of Municipal Buses and the departure/arrival times from/to the airport.

Visa requirements

The Electronic Visa (e-Visa) Application System was launched on 17 April 2013 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. This system allows visitors travelling to Türkiye to easily obtain their e-Visas online (www.evisa.gov.tr), in approximately three minutes.

  • It is possible to obtain e-Visa 7/24 at everywhere with internet connection. The applicants can obtain their visa after they fill in the necessary information concerning their identity, passport and travel dates and pay visa fee online.
  • Please note that e-visa is only valid when the purpose of travel is tourism or commerce. For other purposes, such as work and study, visas are given by Turkish Embassies or Consulates.
  • The term “official passports” covers diplomatic, service, special and official passports.
  • You are kindly advised to have a travel document/passport valid for at least 6 months as from the date of your arrival in Türkiye.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues efforts to strengthen the e-Visa system and to better enable foreign nationals to easily obtain their visas.
